On Wednesday 20 November, Bau-ABC Rostrup welcomed a delegation of Swedish vocational school teachers from Bromangymnasiet in Hudiksvall. The visit marked the start of an inspiring exchange about sustainable construction, modern training approaches and international cooperation.
Insights into the diversity of training at Bau-ABC Rostrup
The Swedish guests were warmly welcomed and experienced Bau-ABC Rostrup as a lively place of learning with an impressive range of trades. Managing Director Melanie Campbell gave the group a tour of the extensive site and presented the areas of timber construction, road construction, canalisation, masonry construction, metal technology, agricultural and construction machinery technology, well construction and special civil engineering, among others. The visitors were particularly impressed by the practical training and innovative concepts with which Bau-ABC qualifies skilled workers for the construction industry of tomorrow.
‘It is impressive how theory and practice are combined at such a high level at Bau-ABC Rostrup. The diversity of the training content and the clear focus on the challenges of the future are a great inspiration for us,’ emphasised Åsa Sundström, Director of Bromangymnasiet. ‘The exchange with our German colleagues helps us to develop new approaches for the sustainable education of young people in Sweden.’
Focus on sustainability and education
The exchange culminated in the afternoon when the pioneering Green Circle project was presented. This project shows how ecological, social and economic sustainability can be anchored in the construction industry. At the same time, the similarities and differences between the training systems in Germany and Sweden were reported on. It became clear that both countries face similar challenges: The shortage of skilled labour, the shift towards sustainable construction methods and the preparation of young people for a constantly changing world of work require innovative approaches and a rethink in training.
The Bromangymnasiet, which is strongly orientated towards the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, was able to take away many valuable ideas for its own work. The delegation emphasised how important it is to learn from each other and develop solutions together in order to make the global construction industry more sustainable.
New perspectives for international cooperation
One particular highlight of the visit is the future collaboration that has already been initiated: Melanie Campbell was invited by Åsa Sundström to speak as an expert at the Swedish school. She will present the German dual training system and explain
Germany’s innovative approaches to sustainability. ‘I am delighted to have been invited and look forward to sharing my knowledge with the teachers and students in Hudiksvall. Sustainability is a global task that we can only solve together. The exchange with Bromangymnasiet shows how much we can learn from each other and motivates us to further expand the international dialogue,’ says Melanie Campbell, project manager at Bau-ABC Rostrup.
A successful exchange with foresight
The Swedish delegation’s visit showed how enriching international cooperation can be. Not only were new perspectives on sustainable construction developed together, but bridges were also built between two educational systems that will strengthen the skilled workers of tomorrow for a sustainable future.
Bau-ABC Rostrup is looking forward to continuing along this path – together with strong partners such as Bromangymnasiet, who are just as passionate about education and sustainability for future generations.
